How To Crochet A Skull Cap

SIZE G OR H HOOK (Depends on how tight you crochet)

PLEASE USE DARK SAGE, MEDIUM SAGE, GREY, DARK BROWN, MEDIUM BROWN OR CAMOFLAGUE.
(You can get 2-3 caps from one skein, depending on how tight you crochet)

  • CH 4; SL ST TO FORM CIRCLE, CH 3
  • ROUND 1: 12 DC IN CIRCLE; SL ST TO TOP OF CHAIN 3; CHAIN 3
  • ROUND 2: 2 DC IN EACH ST; SL TO TOP OF CHAIN 3; CHAIN 3
  • ROUND 3: *2 DC IN 1ST ST, 1 DC IN NEXT ST (REPEAT FROM * AROUND); SL ST TO TOP OF CHAIN 3; CHAIN 3
  • ROUND 4: REPEAT ROUND 3
  • ROUND 5: *2 DC IN 1ST ST; 1 DC IN NEXT 6 ST; (REPEAT ARROUND UNTIL LAST 4 ST); DC IN LAST 4 ST; SL ST TO TOP OF CHAIN 3; CHAIN 3
  • ROUND 6-11: 1 DC IN EACH ST; SL ST TO TOP OF CHAIN 3; CHAIN 3

(TO MAKE BAND)

  • ROUND 12: * DC IN FRONT POST OF 1ST ST; DC IN BACK POST OF 2ND ST: (REPEAT AROUND TO FORM RIBBING); SL ST TO TOP OF CHAIN 3; FASTEN OFF. WEAVE IN ENDS.

The cap cannot be longer than 6 inches from center of skull down to forehead. When completed, fold the cap in half; it should measure approximately 10 inches across.

How To Knit A Skull Cap

An easy knitted version of the Skull Cap to wear under the military helmets:

Yarn: Use Red Heart Worsted Yarn

Colors: dark sage, medium sage, grey, dark brown, medium brown or camouflage

Can be located through : www.herrschners.com or you may find Red Heart at other local stores.

Use a size 10 needle and single strand of yarn
Cast on 72 sts

  • Row 1: K2, P2, K2 across line
  • Row 2-6: Repeat Row 1
  • Row 7: Knit across
  • Row 8: Purl across
  • Repeat these row 7 & 8 until hat is 8 1/2" from start (30 rows)
  • Next row: Purl
  • Next row: K2 together across
  • Next row: Purl
  • Next row: K2 together across
  • Last row: Purl across. Cut a 14" tail of yarn, thread a yarn needle with it. Carefully slide the last row of knitting from knitting needle onto yarn needle. Pull tightly then whip stitch the seam shut.
