How the Light Works
Hundreds of thousands of America’s young men and women are living in remote outposts across Iraq and Afghanistan, working daily to improve the lives of the local inhabitants, fighting to win the battle of the hearts and minds of the people, against the terror tactics and propaganda of al-Qaeda and the Taliban.
This is a different type of war than most prepared and trained for – they are now employing ‘soft power’ instead of military might, and we have to help them, because what they are trying to show in their dedication and tenacity, by giving their blood, sweat and tears, and all too frequently, their lives, is that we, the American people, actually care about the citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan. We need to demonstrate that the American people, not a political administration or a government bureaucracy – individual American citizens, actually do care about the people of Iraq and Afghanistan.
Regardless of your views on the two wars, of how and why we got to where we are today or if we should stay the course or depart, we must help them now, or we will loose this conflict, this clash of ideology and belief systems, or more of our nations children will perish in foreign lands and be brought home in flag-draped coffins.
The founder of SunNight Solar, Mark Bent, served in five areas of international conflict over a twenty year career as a US Marine and Navy officer and then as a Foreign Service officer with the US Department of State. Mark lived and worked in Iraq and Bosnia , was in Somalia during the UN intervention in 1993/4 and lived and reported on conflicts in the African countries of Liberia and Angola . He is well aware of the horrors of war, the incredible cost in lives, the death of hope and the tragedies which are commonplace - all sides lose in war, both the civilians and the combatants – there are no more good wars, and there probably never were.
What the PatriotLight program does is to help our men and women in Iraq , by getting lights to our troops to pass out to the people of Afghanistan and Iraq , to show them that America , the American people, do really care. For each on-line payment of $25.00, SunNight Solar will deliver one of their solar lights to a Marine or Soldier in Afghanistan or Iraq and they in turn will provide this light to a local villager or townsperson. Each light will be laser-engraved – “A Gift from the American People”.
