What SKIP Needs Immediately
SKIP needs your help today more than ever. Our troops deserve the best support America can offer and for five years SKIP volunteers have worked very hard to do that. But, we need supplies and we need money if SKIP is going to continue. Below is a list of immediate needs.
- $11,000 to cover shipping costs for 1,000 care packages – donate now
- $300 for IRS and state legal fees – donate now
- $120 for annual website fees – donate now
- Care package supply collection locations (must be in the Southeast region of Massachusetts)
- Consistent and free marketing/advertising in local and regional areas (national is not a necessity)
- 1,000 DVDs, CDs, books, AT&T Phone Cards, and other fun items for the care packages
- 1,000 letters or cards, written to the troops
In addition to the list of necessity, we also have a wish list.
- $3,000 to apply toward our annual benefit dinner – donate now
- $1,500 to apply toward a benefit show featuring local bands – donate now
- $1,000 for general advertising – donate now
- Free national marketing/advertising
We don't expect one person to cover everything listed, but we would appreciate anything you can offer. Even if all you can donate is $10 or a handful of DVDs you no longer watch, we would greatly appreciate your generosity and so would the troops. Please don't think your donation won't help, because every donation makes a difference.
How You Can Help
Here are a few ways you can help right now.
- Collect from friends:
- remember the last time your friend said,
I owe you for that.
Well, now's your chance to collect. Start with that friend and work your way as far back as you can remember. Tell them you remember that they owe you and what you want for payment is for them to donate to the troops. Some may not even consider it payment
.
- Organize a fundraiser:
- whether it's raising money you want to help with, supplies, or both, SKIP can use your help. Your fundraiser could be as simple as passing a cup around the office collecting loose change, or as challenging as you want it to be. If you need ideas, please don't hesitate to ask.
- Write a letter:
- the troops love reading letters from home, especially from children, but you don't have to limit it to that. You can also draw a picture, design a comic book, or make a card with construction paper. This is a great project that gets students and teachers of all ages involved easily and economically.

- Talk to your boss:
- find out if your company can donate some overstock from the warehouse or funding to help support our troops. SKIP is a legit nonprofit organization, so the value of anything your company donates can be deducted at tax time!
- Be the Go–To Guy or Gal:
- care package supply collection locations are a necessity throughout Southeastern Massachusetts. Get your place of business name and address listed on the SKIP website and printed publications, and be recognized by the community as an upstanding business for supporting our troops. Contact us today and we'll get you set–up with everything you'll need.
Again, anything you can do to help is always greatly appreciated. If you want to help, but still don't know how, please let us know and we'll do our best to make sure you can do something.
Support Our Military Worldwide
Every year SKIP sends more than 1,500 care packages to deployed American troops. That requires funding, supplies, and a lot of hard work to accomplish, but no matter what has to be done, SKIP volunteers always Support Our Military. And we'd love for you to join us in this endeavor.
SKIP may not be the largest nonprofit organization sending care packages, but we're doing our part and we aim to help make doing your part as easy as possible. Because SKIP is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit corporation, as determined by the IRS, your financial and supply donations are tax deductible!

Care Package Donations
If you don't live nearby or you want to add that personal touch to one or more care packages, perhaps you'd like to Sponsor a military care package. Sponsoring a care package for only $25 is a great way to make new friends. In fact, many of SKIP's past care package sponsors have received thank you letters or emails from deployed military members, expressing gratitude and great appreciation for the package. Several of those sponsors and deployed military members have even formed friendships throughout the process.
So, whether you live too far away to help pack the care packages or you want to make a new friend, sponsoring a care package is a very distinguished way to be a big part of the life of a deployed American.
Other great ways you can help would be to donate financially or donate supplies for the care packages.
Each of the ways described above are of utmost importance to the success of SKIP and directly impact the quality and quantity of care packages SKIP can ship overseas. Rest assured, SKIP is an all-volunteer organization and your donation of time, funding, or supplies goes directly toward the SKIP mission of Supporting Our Troops.
We encourage you to learn more about how SKIP operates and why SKIP exists by visiting our page About SKIP. And of course, if you know of or you are a deployed American soldier, sailor, airman, or marine you should absolutely request SKIP Care Packages. They're free and they're fun!

Help Start A SKIP Committee
What are you good at? What do you want to improve on? What innovative ideas do you have for supporting our troops?
If there's one lesson life has taught many of us, it's that two heads are better than one and four are usually better than three, but not every time. SKIP has been trying to develop committees over the past several months in an attempt to put more heads into action without overkill in any one area.
Sounds like a lot of work, right? Well, it is and it's not mastered by any stretch of the imagination. So, strengths we're specifically looking for right now are those of leaders - strong volunteers who can help steer the committees toward success by taking charge and helping SKIP develop each committee from the ground up. If that sounds like you please click here to learn more about volunteering with SKIP.
If you would like to be a part of a committee once they are formed or are interested in other volunteer opportunities, we ask that you too click here to learn more about volunteering with SKIP.
Special Event Planning and Implementing
SKIP has designed floats for parades, manned the Community Homestand at Red Sox games, organized massive yard sales, set-up booths at fairs, put together benefit concerts, and helped clean-up community veteran parks. And we've done all of this and more thanks to the wonderful SKIP volunteers.
Volunteers are needed: Because of the wonderful accomplishments over the past few years, SKIP needs your help. SKIP needs fresh ideas and innovative fundraisers. You are the right person for the job.
