CELEBRATING THE U.S. MILITARY THRU THE YEARS
Special Kindness In Packages, Inc. To Host 2nd Annual Benefit Dinner May 31, 2008
HANSON, MA — Special Kindness In Packages (SKIP), a Brockton-based, non-profit organization and member of the Department of Defense’s America Supports You program, announced today the official launch of ticket sales for the organization’s 2nd Annual Benefit Dinner to be held on May 31, 2008 at 7pm. Enjoy a great dinner, support the U.S. military and their families, and take a chance at leaving with some great raffle and silent auction items. Tickets for the dinner must be purchased in advance and can be purchased online by visiting skipcares.org or contacting Tracy Stiers at (774) 218-1797.
The theme of this year’s SKIP benefit dinner is Celebrating the U.S. Military Thru the Years and according to Tracy Stiers, President and founder of SKIP, “our annual dinner is currently our largest fundraiser. We need the support of all area communities to continue our mission.”
More than 320 care packages are sent to deployed military members each time SKIP volunteers visit the post office. More than 5,000 care packages have been sent by SKIP since the organization was founded in October of 2004. More than $50,000 has been spent by SKIP to cover the shipping costs alone for these care packages. And as one service member said, “It is not an easy mission, but it is a critical one. Your support is very important to us all. You are the greatest strength we have.”
Special guest speaker Shawna Mykes, an 8th grade student, will tell the story of being a military dependent and how military deployments have impacted her. All military dependent children will receive a special gift from SKIP and the first 50 tickets sold will be placed in a special drawing.
