LOCAL NONPROFIT LAUNCHES SUPPORT THE TROOPS HOLIDAY DRIVE
1,642 deployed US military members to receive holiday care packages
BROCKTON, MA — on November 4,2007 Special Kindness In Packages (SKIP), a member of the Department of Defense’s America Supports You, will kick-off their first week-long “Support the Troops Holiday Drive”. With the help of several local businesses SKIP will seek the help of Massachusetts residents to raise the funds and enough supplies for 1,642 deployed military members to receive care packages this holiday season.
“The support we have received from local residents, volunteers, and the continuously growing list of businesses wanting to host locations for donated supplies and funding is incredible,” said Skip Spoerke, Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran and Vice President of Special Kindness In Packages. The organization has secured more than 20 establishments throughout the South Shore that will be hosting supply and funding donation drop-off locations from November 4 through November 11, 2007. “One of our major supporters of this effort is Harbor One Credit Union. Every branch will have brochures and donation bins available,” Spoerke added.
To date, SKIP has shipped more than 7 tons of supplies in monthly care packages overseas while organizing numerous fundraisers and community events, and participating in various parades and ceremonies at home. This shipment will mark a milestone for the organization as the largest shipment the volunteers have ever sent at one time. In order to meet this goal the organization must raise more than $3,000 and 1,000 lbs of supply donations in one week.
