Military Appreciation Month

Written by Nancy Spoerke

The U.S. Congress yearly has adopted a resolution calling for Americans to recognize and honor U.S. service members during May's National Military Appreciation Month. The month gives the U.S. citizens time to join in unity honoring the current and former members of the Armed Forces so we may experience freedom and peace.

May focuses on the military in many ways. We celebrate Silver Star Day, Loyalty Day, VE Day, Military Spouse Day, Armed Forces Day, and Memorial Day. The month not only draws attention to the personal sacrifices of the men and women of the armed forces, but their families also.

Sharing Our Successes

On May 2, SKIP supporters, volunteers, and board members united for one night of fun, magic, and great food during the 3rd Annual SKIP Benefit Dinner.

Every year the SKIP Benefit Dinner grows a little larger and carries with it a little more prestige. The 2009 Dinner was more than just large however, it was "the most successful SKIP event to date" according to several SKIP board members and guests that night. It really was too.

This year's SKIP Benefit Dinner brought a profit of a little over $3,000. That's enough money to cover the shipping costs for approximately 300 care package, and that's a whole lot of AWESOME! Basically what this means is that thanks to your support over the past few months and a wonderful turn-out for last Saturday's dinner, SKIP can send another complete shipment of care packages to our deployed troops. And we're going to do just that!

Details are being worked out now for when/where the packing party will take place, so keep your eye on SKIPcares.org and also your email for further information. We're hoping for an mid June packing date and we'd love to see you there. Stay tuned for more information coming real soon.
