Ways to Show Your Patriotism

Written by Rachel Cericola Sturgis
SKIP Volunteer

Shortly after 9/11, the flag was everywhere: on poles, in windows, on cars. Time may have healed some of our wounds from the event. However, as time has lapsed, so has that sense of prideWhy is it that we don’t see that flag flying as much now?

A life-changing event shouldn’t have to dictate your level of patriotism. Saluting your country has no season. Adding a flag to your yard or window is certainly a simple way to show support. It is an honor and privilege to be an American; don’t be afraid to flaunt it! Here are a few other ways to get active and show your love for the land you call home…

SKIP Dinner Updates

On April 15, we extended ticket sales to the 3rd Annual SKIP Benefit Dinner for an extra week, which means today is the final day to purchase tickets online. Don't miss your chance to be a part of this event! For more information please visit SKIPcares.org

Singer/Songwriter Liz Lohnes has a very important audition that evening and will be unable to perform the National Anthem for us, but she still hopes to make it out in support of the event and maybe we can convince her to sing a song or two when she arrives.

Last night we sent the dinner programs to Happy Frog for printing.

We've received more raffle and auction items that aren't listed on the SKIP website. Hopefully the final list will arrive within the next couple of days so that the website can be updated.

A couple of tables have been sponsored by some wonderful supporters. The tickets for those sponsored tables have been distributed to local military units so that a few military members may join us at no cost to them.

And, as a first for SKIP, we are going to conduct a brief "fallen comrades" ceremony to honor those who cannot be with us that evening. This ceremony was adapted for the evening by US Army Sgt (ret) Skip Spoerke and will be narrated by Command Sergeant Major Deonarine Heera of the Brockton High School JROTC. The rendition of "Taps" being used to conclude the ceremony was previously recorded by Skip Spoerke.
