Why Is The Flag Patch Reversed?
Have you noticed that with the new uniforms the flag is reversed. Not looking like the way they have always been worn? Why? What is the proper respectable display of the flag on the uniform? Was this a mistake?
The flag is only reversed when it is worn on the right shoulder. On the left shoulder it is still worn in the manner we consider the proper display. There is a reason for it to be worn this way and that is that blue field is always placed in the highest position of honor. The place of honor is towards the front. Regulations state whether the flag is worn on the right or left shoulder, that the star field faces forward, or to the flag's right. When it is worn in this manner it is always to the observer's right which gives the flag the effect that the flag is flying in the breeze as the person moves forward. So when it is worn on the right shoulder it is considered the "reverse" flag.
The flag is always attached to the flag poles on the blue field side, so if the flag was not reversed then it would look like it is moving backwards. Now think of the person's shoulder where the flag is located on the uniform and think of it as a flag pole. As the military member moves forward the flag flows forward...it is not in the retreat manner.
Another item to mention is the bright red, white, and blue flag on the camouflaged uniform. The reason for the camouflaged uniform is so it does not stand out. Because of this there is now a muted colored flag to be worn.
