The Future of SKIP

As the end of 2008 gets closer and the new year is right around the corner, all of us at Special Kindness In Packages are looking forward to new and exciting challenges. 2008 brought on many activities including Boots in Bars, our second annual dinner, a booth at the Marshfield fair and at the Brockton Christmas Fair, and we participated in the 4th of July parade in Bridgewater for the first time. There were other activities also, some of which were held in other states on our behalf.

So what is in our future? We would like to participate in all the activities as in 2008 plus there are possibilities of a yard sale, bowling event, and bbq. These items are in their planning stages at this time. These events will help us cover the costs of shipping care packages to our deployed military members. Would you like to help plan or participate in some of the events?

Special Kindness In Packages was started as a way for us to connect with our deployed military members. We have been offering support as they face their challenges in the world of the unknown. We want them to know they are not forgotten and this is a way to say we are okay and we thank you for what you are doing.

So what can we do besides send care packages?
We would like to provide more of a support system for the families of the deployed members. This would allow the military member to have less worry about his/her family. Some of our ideas include: a page for common information they can use whether military or civilian orientated. A place to list and offer help with odd jobs the spouse needs done. The spouse needs to know that they aren’t alone, someone is there to help them. They all need to know that the world isn’t going to fall in around them, try this and it may be the answer you are looking for. They also may need some tips on enjoying the return home, after all the spouse has been handling things all on her own at home.

The youth of the deployed are affected also, they don’t always understand the whys and how comes they face. They need a connection with someone who will understand what is going on. We would like to do so much for the families like a holiday party, a craft day so they can make and send gifts made with their own hands to their loved one. Maybe we could send cards on birthdays or anniversaries. Can you imagine a dinner all paid for when the loved one returns home?

These are only ideas, right now they are just being checked out. Some with little or no cost will be implemented shortly. Others will be researched and implemented when we are able, if at all. There are needs for all of this support projects, but we must feel comfortable bringing them into the organization. Also if we expand our mission we can apply for grants.

Please consider joining us at our events and new challenges, this should be an exciting time. Of course, our immediate mission is still shipping care packages. With that we have to raise funds because shipping is our largest cost factor.
